Establishment of New 66 kV Substations
To address the rising electricity demand in the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) is launching a major initiative to enhance its transmission network capacity.
Key Project Facts:
This project will add approximately 520 MVA of firm capacity, ensuring a reliable and efficient power supply for the growing population and economy. Over the next four years, EWA will focus on constructing new substations to strengthen infrastructure and promote sustainable energy growth in the region.
The project involves the establishment of nine new 66 kV substations, along with associated 66 kV feeders and communication cabling connections. Strategically located across Bahrain, these substations are a key component of EWA’s Transmission Development initiative.
To accommodate the growing power load demands from new developments in Bahrain's domestic, commercial, housing, and industrial sectors.
2 new substations will be commissioned in 2026, followed by 4 substations in 2027 and 3 substations in 2028.
