President's Message
Kamal bin Ahmed Mohamed

As we stand at the forefront of a new era in the energy and water sector, I am proud to share the transformational journey of the Electricity and Water Authority (EWA).

At a time of great global change, Bahrain’s electricity and water industry is undergoing a significant transformation, focused on restructuring the entire sector to enhance operational efficiency, sustainability, and service delivery.

EWA plays a crucial role in Bahrain’s infrastructure and economic development, serving a customer base of 468,000, while meeting the needs of the entire kingdom. With assets totalling BD 2.4 billion (approximately $6.4 billion), we are one of Bahrain's most substantial asset-based entities. Committed to positioning Bahrain as a global leader in reliable and sustainable electricity and water services, we are investing over $4 billion in infrastructure development between 2024 – 2028.

Through our transformation plan, we are committed to developing and maintaining a reliable and resilient electricity and water network. We are implementing a long-term strategy focused on optimising service delivery, improving efficiency, and advancing decarbonization efforts. By actively monitoring electricity and water demand, we ensure the safety and reliability of our services, while aligning with Bahrain’s sustainability goals.

EWA is committed to achieving net-zero by 2060, to which we have developed our Energy Transition Plan. This comprehensive strategy aims to diversify our energy sources, ensuring that 20% of our electricity generation comes from renewable resources by 2035. By reducing our reliance on natural gas, we are paving the way for a greener, more sustainable future. This transformation is not merely a response to global trends; it is a commitment to our community.

Our transformation plan goes beyond infrastructure and sustainability; it is also about delivering tangible benefits to our customers. By adopting innovative technologies and sustainable practices, we are ensuring a more reliable and efficient supply of electricity and water to every home, community, and business. As we move towards modernisation, our focus remains steadfast on enhancing service quality and efficiency. This strategic shift is designed to transform every customer interaction into a positive experience.

At the heart of this transformation is our workforce, our greatest asset. We are dedicated to empowering our employees through continuous training and development, equipping them with the skills necessary to thrive in an evolving energy landscape. By fostering innovation and excellence, we are ensuring the success of our transformation and the continued delivery of world-class services to Bahrain.

EWA remains dedicated in its mission to providing reliable, sustainable and innovative utilities that support Bahrain’s vision for the future. With a commitment to excellence and a focus on the needs of our community, we are building a brighter, more sustainable future for generations to come. As we continue this ambitious journey, our aim is not just to adapt to change; but to lead it.
