EWA facilitates Bahrain’s urban development and economic growth by ensuring the availability of modern, reliable, and resilient electricity infrastructure. To support the seamless integration of major projects developed by government entities and the private sector, developers are required to utilise EWA’s Project Adoption service.

To begin the network design approval process, developers must appoint an Engineering Office licensed by CRPEP. The appointed office will prepare and submit all network designs for thorough review. This ensures the project meets the highest standards of supply security, safety, and network optimisation—protecting both your development and the infrastructure.

Application Process

  1. Submit application and required documents as soft copies at EWA’s Customer Care Building (CCB) in Um Al Hassam.
  2. Receive submission acknowledgement email; resubmission may be required if any documents are missing or need revision.
  3. Receive approval letter by email.

Service Steps

  1. Appoint Engineering Office
    Appoint a CRPEP-licensed Engineering Office to prepare the network design.
  2. Submit Application
    Submit your application for Network Design Approval and all required documents at CCB in Um Al Hassam.
  3. Application Review
    Our team will review your submitted network diagrams and load schedules for compliance with EWA's policies and guidelines. If revisions are needed, you will be asked to resubmit the corrected information.
  4. Approval Release
    Once your design is approved, an email containing the official approval letter will be sent to you.
  5. Proceed to Asset Adoption Compliance
    Upon receiving the Network Design Approval, you may proceed with the Asset Adoption Compliance.

Before applying, ensure that you have completed your consultation with the Urban Planning & Development Authority (UPDA). If your project load exceeds 12 MVA, you will also need to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Electricity and Water Authority.

Following a successful Network Design Approval, the developer must procure all equipment and materials for the project exclusively from EWA Approved Manufacturers. Our team will audit these assets by reviewing technical documentation and conducting on-site inspections to ensure compliance with EWA standards. This process is crucial to guaranteeing the highest levels of safety, reliability, and efficiency for your project.

  7. Approved Project Single Line Diagrams
  8. Schedule of Guarantee of relevant Technical Specifications
  9. List of items in excel format

Service Steps

  1. Select Approved Manufacturers
    Select Approved Manufacturers to procure the required equipment.
  2. Submit Application
    Submit your application for Type Attestation and all required documents at the CCB (Um Al Hassam).
  3. Application Review
    Our team will review your submitted equipment documents to confirm their full compliance with EWA’s standards and specifications. If any requirements are missing or require revision, you will be asked to resubmit the necessary information.
  4. Approval Release
    Once your application is approved, an email containing the official approval letter will be sent to you.
  5. Inspection and Clearance
    Submit your Asset Inspection request prior to site delivery. Upon successful inspection, you will receive the official clearance.
  6. Commence Site Construction Works
    Appoint an Approved Contractor to commence site construction works.

Before starting site construction, the Engineering Office should apply for Planning Permission through the Central Planning Office (CPO), and ensure all necessary approvals and permits from relevant Service Entities are secured.

Following the plant’s successful energization, the final step is the official handover to EWA. Our team will review the project closeout documentation to ensure full compliance with EWA standards. This critical verification ensures the plant performs in accordance with contract terms and operates to EWA’s satisfaction, marking the official completion of the project.

Service Steps

  1. Submit Application
    Submit your application for the Completion Certificate at the CBB (Um Al Hassam) once your plant has been successfully energised.
  2. Application Review
    Our team will review your submitted as-built drawings and warranty certificates to verify they meet contract terms and EWA standards. If revisions are needed, you will be asked to resubmit the corrected information.
  3. Certificate Issuance
    Once your application is approved, an email containing the Completion Certificate will be sent to you.
  4. Maintenance Period Completion
    Upon successful completion of the defect liability period, submit the End of Maintenance Period Certificate to obtain our consent.
  5. Your Service is Complete

The project completion and handover certificates are required to initiate the release of your Performance Bond, if applicable. Ensure timely submission to facilitate a smooth closeout and expedite the return of your guarantee.
