Electricity and Water Authority Launches Awareness Campaign on Safe Use of Electricity

The Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) has launched an awareness campaign under the slogan #ElectricalSafetyIsYourSafety aimed at promoting the safe and responsible use of electricity. The campaign seeks to raise public awareness about proper practices and behaviors to reduce the risk of electrical accidents in homes.

EWA emphasized that this initiative is part of its broader corporate social responsibility efforts and its ongoing commitment to fostering a culture of safety and security in the use of electricity. The campaign also aims to encourage safer interactions with electrical devices and installations.

The Authority stated that a key objective of the campaign is to reduce electricity-related incidents caused by improper usage. It underscored the importance of adhering to all safety standards, including the critical need to hire only EWA-certified electrical contractors for any home wiring or electrical work. The Authority warned that using unlicensed contractors poses significant risks due to non-compliance with safety standards, which could lead to future electrical hazards.

Furthermore, EWA stressed the dangers of unauthorized load increases in homes without prior consultation with the Authority. Such actions may result in overloading cables and fuses that are not designed to handle the added demand. Therefore, subscribers are urged to consult EWA beforehand to upgrade cables and fuses accordingly and avoid any potential safety issues.

The campaign will also focus on increasing awareness about the importance of conducting regular preventive electrical inspections in households. EWA highlighted the necessity of ensuring that grounding and protection systems are functioning properly, as these systems play a vital role in automatically disconnecting the power in case of a fault, thereby preventing harm.

The Authority encourages all subscribers to visit its website at www.ewa.bh to access the full list of approved electrical contractors and to learn more about safe practices when dealing with electricity at home.
