Bahrain to Host "GCC Power 2024" Conference This November
The Kingdom of Bahrain is set to host the 20th edition of the GCC Power 2024 Conference, scheduled from 11 to 13 November 2024. Organized by the GCC Regional Committee for Electricity Systems – GCC CIGRE – in collaboration with the Electricity and Water Authority (EWA), the event will bring together senior officials, policymakers, industry pioneers, and a distinguished lineup of experts to explore global best practices and breakthrough innovations that enhance the efficiency of power and energy services, while promoting sustainability across local, regional, and international platforms.
On this occasion, H.E. Eng. Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed, President of the Electricity and Water Authority, emphasized that GCC Power 2024 serves as a leading platform for advancing joint cooperation between the Kingdom of Bahrain and fellow GCC nations. “This year’s edition presents a real opportunity to address challenges, exchange expertise, and explore future prospects that align with Bahrain’s strategic direction for developing its electricity sector,” he stated. “Through this conference, EWA aims to convene top specialists and thought leaders to share insights and discuss emerging trends in energy, driving innovation and collaborative efforts to achieve sustainable development goals and enhance power sector efficiency across the region.”
H.E. Eng. Ahmed Nasser Al-Nasser, Chairman of GCC CIGRE and Chairman of the Conference, noted that a key focus of GCC Power 2024 will be the latest advancements in sustainable energy systems, highlighting global innovation in power development. “This reflects the continued commitment of Bahrain and the wider Gulf region to adopt cutting-edge technologies and meet the highest standards of efficiency in this vital sector – paving the way toward ambitious goals in clean, reliable energy,” he added.
Since its inception in 1985, GCC CIGRE has been instrumental in fostering knowledge exchange and regional collaboration to enhance energy systems. Its core mission is to drive progress in the electricity sector across the GCC by developing human capital and encouraging applied research. Through conferences like GCC Power 2024, the organization promotes technical studies and knowledge sharing among engineers and experts across member states.
H.E. Eng. Ahmed Ali Al-Ebrahim, Chairman of the Technical Committee at GCC CIGRE, highlighted that the conference will offer participants valuable insights into a wide array of topics, including system operation and control, system planning and economics, electricity markets and regulations, distribution systems, and substations.
