EWA President Meets Delegation from UAE’s Emirates Energy Efficiency Company

Engineer Kamal bin Ahmed, President of the Electricity and Water Authority (EWA), affirmed that the Authority continues to pursue plans aimed at rationalizing electricity consumption and preserving natural resources through various specialized plans and programs, applying best international practices.

This came during his reception of Mr. Abdul Nasser Aqeel Abbas, Advisor to the President of EWA in Dubai, UAE, and Board Member of Emirates Energy Efficiency Company, along with Mr. Walid Al Nuaimi, CEO of Emirates Energy Efficiency Company, and their accompanying delegation.

During the meeting, Engineer Kamal highlighted EWA’s implementation of the national "Kafa'a" program, which targets reducing electricity consumption in high-usage buildings across both public and private sectors in Bahrain. This is achieved by leveraging energy service companies supported by the private sector. He noted that this meeting offered an opportunity to learn from the UAE’s experience in this field, including project financing mechanisms, sustainability solutions, clean energy use, and to discuss avenues for cooperation and joint development.

He added that energy service companies are promising solutions to achieve Bahrain’s goals related to improving efficiency, rationalizing resource and energy consumption, and investing in them. He also emphasized their close link to environmental sustainability and Bahrain’s efforts to meet its international commitments to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060.

Notably, EWA completed a pilot project last year to improve energy efficiency in facilities in cooperation with energy service companies across four government facilities. This initiative successfully reduced annual energy consumption by 41%, cut bills by 39%, and lowered carbon emissions by 5,430 tons.
