Choose Energy-Efficient Appliances

In Bahrain, air conditioning accounts for about 60% of our total electricity consumption, especially during the hot summer months.

To combat this, EWA, in partnership with the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, has implemented regulations to ensure all household air conditioners meet energy efficiency standards. Look for the energy efficiency label when purchasing an air conditioner, which includes:

  • Star Rating (more stars = lower energy use)
  • Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER)
  • Cooling Capacity (BTU/hr)
  • Annual Electricity Consumption (kWh)
  • Brand and Model Number

Your smart choice of an energy-efficient air conditioner helps you reduce your electricity bill and contributes to environmental conservation.

Monitor Your AC Usage

Monitor Your AC Usage

  • Set your thermostat to a comfortable 24°C.
  • Clean your AC filter every two weeks for optimal performance.
  • Turn off ACs in unoccupied rooms.
  • Seal vents to prevent air leaks.
  • Schedule regular maintenance.
  • Keep windows and doors closed while the AC is running.
Switch to LED Lights

Switch to LED Lights

Lighting accounts for approximately 15% of Bahrain’s electricity consumption.

EWA, in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, has introduced regulations to ensure that only high-efficiency lamps are available in the market.

Why choose LEDs?

  • Save up to 90% more energy
  • Eco-friendly and recyclable
  • Lasts up to 30 times longer than traditional bulbs
  • Produces less heat and are easy to install
  • Versatile for all lighting needs
General Energy-Saving Tips

General Energy-Saving Tips

  • Set your water heater to 60-70°C.
  • Disconnect the boiler during summer months.
  • Use the dishwasher and washing machine only at full capacity.
  • Avoid using unnecessary appliances during peak hours (1 PM - 4 PM and 10 PM - 1 AM).
Thermal Insulation

Thermal Insulation

Thermal insulation involves the use of specific materials in the roofs and walls of buildings to reduce the transfer of heat.

These materials help minimize heat entering the building during the summer and prevent indoor heat from escaping during the winter.  In Bahrain, the application of thermal insulation has been made mandatory under Ministerial Order No. (28) of 2012, issued by the Minister of Electricity and Water Affairs, as part of the national strategy to improve building performance and reduce overall energy consumption.

Why use thermal insulation?

  • Saves about 30% of electricity consumption
  • Reduces the cooling capacity needed by air conditioners
  • Protects building materials, furniture and internal decoration of the building
  • Insulates outside noise
